Snowstorms and Air Conditioners

March 17, 2016

We haven’t completely gotten through winter in Stuart just yet. Mother Nature has provided us with a few nice days, but she’s always prepped to remind us that she’s in full control. So when she does finally let up and it starts to warm up, read below so you won’t want to have to unexpectedly call us for out for air conditioner service.

Heavy snowfall can bury your air conditioner in the snow, hindering its performance when the temperatures finally warm up for the season. Not to mention it can hinder a high-efficiency system from operating as such. The situation could become an even greater problem too if you don’t prep for it with an annual air conditioner service appointment.

There are things you can do as a homeowner to help your air conditioner operate as it should even though snow has fallen or could fall in the coming days and weeks.

  1. Keep a 3-foot/1-meter clearance around your air conditioner. Inspect the area routinely to be sure that it stays clear and that there are no snow drifts or piles of debris that may have accumulated during the winter.
  2. Contrary to what you may think, putting a cover over your air conditioner might end up doing more damage than you’d expect. A covered air conditioner could be inviting for rodents looking for shelter from the weather and start to call it home, possibly meaning damage to the system as they roam about.

While the weather in Stuart will most likely go up and down over the last few days of colder temperatures, you can’t count out the possibility of weather that can impact the performance of your air conditioner. At Breathe Healthier Air in Stuart, we are always available to take a look at any areas around your home or answer any of your questions, whether they’re related to air conditioner service or adding a new system.
